Leaving EPFL

When an employee wishes to terminate their employment before the end of their work contract they must send a resignation letter to Human Resources.

The unit and the employee may find hereafter useful and non-exhaustive information in case of departure from the EPFL:

  • An information letter to the employee upon their departure from the EPFL
  • PUBLICA Pension Fund
  • A checklist for the units – departure of an employee
  • A copy of the approved and signed Work Certificate must be sent to Human Resources. Human Resources can provide a work certificate model to the units.
  • Holiday balance: needs to be checked and signed by the unit and the employee so that the remaining days may be taken before departure. Please consult the rules regarding work time management (RGT) (LEX 4.1.4, only available in French) and archiving of the profile in the absence system.

Electronics Infrastructure

Before the end of their work collaboration with the EPFL, users have the responsibility to delete all data concerning their private use of the EPFL electronics infrastructure.

Access rights to the EPFL electronics infrastructure are automatically removed when the user’s work collaboration with the EPFL ends. If required and justified, the access to the user’s mailbox and email may be exceptionally maintained past this date. Required deadlines at the end of employment

For employees under a fixed term contract (CDD)

During the trial period:

  • For the end of the week following the one when the notice was given, during the two first month of the trial period;
  • for the end of the month following the one when the notice was given, during the third month of the trial period.

After the trial period, the work relationship will terminate without notice at the end of the contract.

However, by mutual agreement and without prejudice to either party, the contract may be terminated at any time.

The notice can only take effect at the end of a month.

For employees under a permanent contract (CDI)

During the trial period:

  • For the end of the week following the one when the notice was given, during the two first month of the trial period;
  • for the end of the month following the one when the notice was given, during the third month of the trial period.

After the trial period, the contract may be terminated by the end of the month, the notice period is:

  • one month during the first year of service;
  • three months from the second year of

However, by mutual agreement and without prejudice to either party, the contract may be terminated at any time.

The notice can only take effect at the end of a month.
